Dr. John & The Lower 911
Tuesday, February 9
8pm
$52

Artist's Website: DrJohn.org
Why He's Worth Watching: A formidable boogie and blues pianist with a lovable growl of a voice, his most enduring achievements have fused New Orleans R&B, rock, and Mardi Gras craziness to come up with his own brand of "voodoo" music. He's also quite accomplished and enjoyable when sticking to purely traditional forms of blues and R&B.
For Fans Of: Van Morrison, Joe Cocker, The Band

Tab Benoit
Wednesday, February 10
8pm
$26.50

Artist's Website: www.tabbenoit.com
Fun Fact: Born and raised on the Louisiana bayou, this self-proclaimed “new kid from the old school” has been the standard bearer for a new generation of Cajun blues musicians – a traditionalist and an innovator at the same time, grafting elements of rock and soul to the indigenous sounds of the bayou.
For fans of... Tommy Castro, Stevie Ray Vaughan

Big Sam's Funky Nation
Thursday, February 11
8pm
$18.50

Band's Website: Big Sam's Funky Nation MySpace
Why They're Worth Watching: Presiding over his Funky Nation is Big Sam, formerly the trombonist for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, who blows the funk out of his trombone and refuses to let the audience sit still. Between solos and trombone riffs, Big Sam second-lines (a uniquely New Orleans style of street-dance) and gets the crowd going both in movement and in replies to his call-and-response MC-style. A talented group of jazz-trained musicians makes up the Funky Nation, bringing with them the improv-style associated with jazz and the horn-heavy front section that's the hallmark of big band funk.
For Fans Of: Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Lettuce, Jon Cleary, Greyboy Allstars

The Association
Friday, February 12
8pm
$45

Artist's Website: theassociationwebsite.com
Why They're Worth Watching:
With their roots in the same potent Sunset Strip folk revival that yielded the Byrds and Buffalo Springfield, the Association's music embodied a more formal, pop-conscious wedding of folkie influences and the same affinity for adventurous vocal harmonies that fueled many of Brian Wilson's legendary productions during that epoch.
For Fans Of: Simon & Garfunkel, Nancy Sinatra, The Beach Boys

Jared, an unhappy corporate employee, grapples with his conscience on doing what is right for the company versus what is right for himself. Truly, an aspiring singer, struggles to create one meaningful song in her life while trying to maintain old friendships and new. Veronica, a self-conscious actor, works odd-jobs looking for her one big break, until she gets it. Mark, a voiceover performer, obsesses over the recent break-up with his girlfriend Andrea, perhaps a little too much. Ringo, a self-proclaimed "know-it-all" when it comes to the ladies hides an unexpected secret. With an ongoing career that spans four decades and forty albums, John Mayall is revered on both sides of the Atlantic as the "Father of British Blues." Time after time, star performers-most notably Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood and Mick Taylor-have passed through the ranks of Mayall's band, the Blues Breakers. Regardless of the immense musical talents he both sought out and nurtured, Mayall has always been a formidable bandleader in his own right, as well as a musical director who uses his talents as multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter to create bands that reflect his own changing tastes.

    Poco and Pure Prairie League
    Thursday, February 18
    8pm
    $49.50

    Artist Website: www.poconut.org | www.pureprairieleague.com
Why They're Worth Watching: POCO After rising in 1968 from the ashes of the Buffalo Springfield, Poco began infusing the L.A. folk/rock sound with their deep-rooted lyricism and the instrumentation of country music, a revelation and inspiration for the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, and other future headliners.
PURE PRAIRIE LEAGUE is an American country-rock band whose roots began between 1964 and 1969 in Waverly, Ohio with Craig Fuller, Tom McGrail, Jim Caughlan and John David Call. The band's name was chosen in 1970 by McGrail after a 19th century temperance union mentioned in the 1939 film Dodge City. The band has had a long run, active from the 1970s through to the late 1980s and was reborn in the late 90s and again in the mid 2000s. Their biggest hit was “Amie” an iconic country rock song about an on and off again relationship.
For Fans Of: Eagles, Little Feat, Firefall

Eric Sardinas & Joanne Shaw Taylor

    $20

    Artist's Website: Eric's MySpace | Joanne's MySpace
Why They're Worth Watching: Performing an exhilarating, powerful and sometimes terrifying new style that's real, raw & wickedly intense, Eric Sardinas is a welcome reminder of the finest unfiltered music from an era bygone with a unique sound & honest delivery. Eric performs aggressively soulful, self-penned compositions plus searing renditions of several obscure treasures from the back catalogues of classic blues artists. When Eurhythmics founder Dave Stewart first witnessed Joanne Shaw Taylor at the the age of 16, he thought her Telecaster skills were so perfect, he asked her to join his super-group D.U.P. to tour Europe. "Catch her live if you can, then you can say: I was there at the beginning" - Blue Print Magazine
For Fans Of: Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Bonnie Raitt

Why They're Worth Watching: Poco is one of the first and longest-lasting country-rock groups. They've produced 25 albums over the past 40 years.
Fun Fact: Their song "Rose of Cimarron" was later covered by Emmylou Harris and turned into the de facto title track of her Cimarron album, and was also included on her Songs of the West compilation in the 1990s.

    Why She's Worth Watching:

A dynamic, no-holds-barred live performer – and one of the rare female country artists capable of throwing down some impressive guitar work – the Alberta, Canada native has toured with such superstars as Brooks & Dunn, Reba McEntire, and George Strait on her way to becoming a seven-time, fan-voted Canadian Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year.
For Fans Of: Shania Twain, Jo Dee Messina, Reba McEntire

    The Verve Pipe
    "An Acoustic Evening"
    w. Seth Glier
    Monday, February 22
    8pm
    $22.50

Artist's Website: The Verve Pipe MySpace | Seth's MySpace
Why They're Worth Watching: In the Darwinian egosystem of rock ‘n' roll, survival depends on musical instincts, and they don't come any keener than those of The Verve Pipe. Since the early 90's, this formidable alliance of alpha males has thrived by making music their way, with two indie and two RCA albums to their credit. Some observers have had trouble categorizing The Verve Pipe's music, mostly because the band itself has steadfastly refused to be pinned down. However, fans have long understood what The Verve Pipe is all about: great songs performed from the heart.
For Fans Of: Better Than Ezra, Collective Soul, Stone Temple Pilots

    Howie Day
    w. Serena Ryder
    Tuesday, February 23
    8pm
    $20

    Artist's Website: Howie's MySpace | Serena's MySpace
    Why He's Worth Watching:
Like Patty Griffin before him, singer/songwriter Howie Day emerged from the country quietude of Bangor, Maine, and entered both Boston's coffeehouse scene and the world of folk music. Unlike Griffin, however, Day stretched the boundaries of acoustic music from the very start, often using loop pedals in concert to create lush, layered sounds with a single guitar. He later expanded that sound to include electric instruments, strings, and a full backing band, a move that resulted in such pop/rock hits as "Collide" and "She Says."
For Fans Of: Matt Nathanson, Shawn Mullins, Martin Sexton
